The CCM National Congress in Dodoma has picked Dr John Pombe Magufuli as the party’s flag bearer in the Union presidential vote during the forthcoming general elections slated for October 25.
Dr John Magufuli won by a landslide, beating two other contenders, Ambassador Amina Salum Ali and Dr Asha-Rose Migiro. The three had been endorsed for the final vote to get the party’s flag bearer in October.
Announcing the results, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Anna Makinda, said Mr Magufuli got 2,104 votes out of the 2, 422 votes cast, equivalent to 87.1 per cent.
Six votes were spoilt. He was followed by Ambassador Amina, who garnered 253 votes, equivalent to 10.5 per cent and Dr Migiro, who obtained 59 votes, equal to 2.4 per cent.
